The Valdez Museum is considered Alaska's best small museum. It brings the colorful threads of the community's history together in an unique blend of artifacts and archival materials. The key object is the community's original fire apparatus including an 1880 Glenson & Bailey hand engine and a 1907 Ahrens Continental steamer. Both were restored by Andy Swift and are the pride of Valdez. The museum also features the community's gold rush history including mining railroading home and social life the 1964 Alaska earthquake and the 1989 EXXON VALDEZ oil spill in Prince William Sound. Other major artifacts include a 2nd order lighthouse lens. Archive facilities are available for researchers. General admission is $5 for adults with discounts for senior citizens and groups. The Hall of Flame exhibits almost ninety wheeled pieces of apparatus in its four galleries which covers over 30 000 square feet. In addition dozens of lithographs drawings prints and photographs are on display. There are three operating fire alarm exhibits and at last count the patch exhibit numbered over 2 500 specimens from all over the world. Rounding out the exhibits are over 100 insurance firemarks from all over the world a display of helmets trumpets buckets and memorabilia and a large collection of fire apparatus models. We are especially proud of the fifty models built by Oswego New York Fire Fighter Jimmy Jackson. The wheeled pieces include manual engines from England France Austria and Japan. We have American manuals made by Jeffers Hunneman Button Rumsey Buckley and Merit Gleason and Bailey Howe Bates and Pirsch. We have steamers made by Silsby American Fire Engine Company and Shand-Mason. Among the motorized pieces on exhibits are rigs made by American LaFrance Seagrave Ahrens-Fox Mack Pirsch Howe Merryweather Moreland Maxim Autocar and Mercedes-Metz. Many of these pieces are original. Many others have been restored by our staff artisan Don Hale. For families we have an Urban Survival interactive exhibit developed in conjunction with the Phoenix Fire Department. This exhibit includes an EDITH house a video screening area an in-house 911 telephone system and several other exhibits. The museum is quadrupling the size of its library to allow for an expanded collection as well as a reading and reference area for researchers staff and members. The museum is Closed Thanksgiving Christmas and New Year's Day. Admission is $4 for adults $3 for senior citizens $1.50 for students age 6 to 17 and free to kids under 6. The museum collection now includes seven motorized rigs dating from 1914 to 1942 a 1903 American LaFrance steamer three hand pumpers a hand hauled chemical rig and many hand drawn hose reels and chemical extinguishers. Shoulder patch collection numbers over 800. A fire extinguisher exhibit covers the subject from leather buckets to today's most modern types. We exhibit helmets badges artifacts and photos far too many to enumerate. A popular exhibit is a Smokey Bear costume and several displays covering his history. Reopening in 1994 the fire museum displays Napa's first fire engine a 1859 hand pumper. Also on display is a 1904 Nott Steam Pumper a 1926 American LaFrance a 1931 American LaFrance Quad Ladder Truck and a 1948 Sterling Engine made by Coast Manufacture. In addition the museum displays a 1913 Model T hose carts alarm panels fire boxes helmets badges nozzles books magazines and an array of other antique paraphernalia. Over 90% of the fire equipment was brought and used by the City of Napa throughout the years. The goals of the museum are to provide a link to the past a destination for visitors to the city preservation of equipment and a place for residents to display their collections. A visit to the Napa Fire Fighters Museum leaves children with smiles tales of fire engines and dreams of becoming a fire fighter. Adults are in awe of the amount of equipment and items on display. Opened in October of 2001 the restored 1930 fire station displays early LAFD apparatus photographs scale models artifacts and equipment. The following LAFD apparatus is on display: Horse drawn Hayes Aerial 1910 Anderson City Service with 1913 Seagrave Tractor two 1929 Seagrave Hose Wagons 1905 Gorter Water Tower with a 1915 ALF two wheeled tractor and a 1937 ALF 400 Series Triple. Note these rigs except for the 1905 Gorter Water Tower had been previously located at the Travel Town Museum. Miscellaneous equipment two hand drawn hose carts and one hand drawn chemical wagon and a collection of fire extinguishers are also on display. The museum is also the new home of the late Tom Showers Scale Model fire apparatus collection. Photographs depicting the history and the many facets of the LA City FD are on display throughout the station. This site is also the future home of the LAFD Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial. This museum is owned and operated by the Long Beach Firemen's Historical Society. A trip to Old Fire Station 10 where the museum is housed is like a trip back in time. Old time fire engines in prime condition antique helmets horse collars and hose wagons are just some of the items you will see on display. Walking through the restored old kitchen or Captain's quarters or just around the huge barn full of old pumpers makes you imagine the activity of those early fire fighters. It's a fire buff's paradise. Some of the equipment that can be found at the museum includes 1921 Seagrave Pumper 1923 Seagrave Aerial 1922 Ahrens-Fox 1924 1926 1929 Ahrens-Fox pumpers 1935 GMC Squad Wagon and a 1958 Mack pumper. Located in the northwest corner of Los Angeles' Griffith Park Travel Town is a transportation museum with an outdoor display of locomotives and passenger cars. In addition the museum has a sizeable collection of vintage automobiles and horse drawn vehicles along with an extensive exhibit of fire fighting equipment and apparatus. The fire fighting collection features such highlights as a 1903 horse drawn Hayes Aerial Hook and Ladder (2nd class 75 foot extension) 1937 American LaFrance Combination Pumper 1913 Seagrave Tractor/Aerial Hook and Ladder and 1918 American LaFrance Ladder Truck. The museum also has a permanent exhibit about the history of the Los Angeles Fire Department entitled Fire Fighting in Los Angeles: 1869-1940 which incorporates most of the fire fighting equipment collection. Located at 1326 Tremont Place it has from the early time of its formation the Denver Fire Department born of a bucket a bell and the courage and ingenuity of many men played an important role in the progress and growth of the City of Denver. Denver's historic Fire House Number One is the sight of the Rocky Mountain Region's only non-profit fire history museum and is the most completely unique facility in the area. Displays range from a valuable collection of antique fire equipment to vintage paraphernalia. The magnificent building and collection offers educational programs on early Denver history fire history fire fighters and fire safety. The 12 000 square foot museum currently houses 20 trucks and a 1914 Waterous Steamer which is fully operational. A beautifully restored 1882 Hand-drawn hose cart from our Orman Hose Co. No. 1 an original Gamewell Fire Alarm base control station from 1876 competition trumpets from our hose and hook & ladder co. in the 1880's as well as many local fire artifacts and numerous photos. It is housed in the old Fire Station3 which served the Pueblo Fire Dept. from 1896 until 1979. The brass fire pole which served the station is still intact as well as the block and tackle to hoist hay into the loft when the station was a horse-drawn fire company form 1896 until 1914. 3/12/2006

This museum rates a visit by all fire buffs who find themselves in the New England region. The museum has sixteen pieces of motorized apparatus and three hand drawn pieces. Some of the more unique pieces are a 1929 Ahrens Fox pumper a 1927 Mack AD pumper and two airport crash trucks - a 1942 GMC/Sealand and a 1967 Walter. The museum also has a working Gamewell fire alarm system that is actually used for the Trolley Museum Campus. The museum is located off I-91 at Exit 45 - Bridge Street. The museum was opened in 1982 by the Connecticut Firemen's Historical Society. On display is a varied collection of hand operated fire pumps horse drawn and early motorized fire apparatus as well as numerous other items including old fire fighting prints and photographs helmets officers trumpets leather fire buckets insurance company firemarks and alarm equipment dating back to the 18th century. It is housed in a former fire station that is part of the Cheney National Historical District. The museum can be reached from Exit 2 or Exit 3 off I-384 at the intersection of Hartford Road and Pine Street. Hartford Road runs parallel to I-384. The Society is the caretaker of the town's 1936 American LaFrance Scout pumper which is housed in a two bay garage on the property of the town's Noden-Reed Museum. The museum is made up of a home built in the 1840's an all brick barn built in 1826 and the garage that is being turned into a Firehouse . Also included is a Badger Chemical Cart three hose reels and a 1815 Luther Holland Hand Drawn Pumper Bethel's first fire fighting piece. The Friendship Fire Association is currently upgrading its fire service museum of memorabilia and artifacts of the Capital Area Fire Service. Some of the items in the museum date back to the early 19th Century and include leather fire buckets helmets belts and officer's trumpets. Recently added to the museum is a collection of fire department badges and patches from each of the 50 states and various countries. Edward B. Sonneborn last of the organizations Charter Members bequeathed this collection to the Friendship Fire Association it's Past President and Honorary Deputy Fire Chief of the District of Columbia Fire Department. The history of the Marietta Fire Department is displayed at Marietta Fire Station just east of the downtown Marietta Square. The highlight of the museum is Marietta's 1879 Silsby Steamer S/N 655. The steamer has been restored and its brilliant nickel plating mirrors the whole museum. Other apparatus on display include a 1950 Chevrolet Rescue Truck a 1921 ALF S/N 4267 Engine and a 1929 Seagrave Engine. Antique equipment and photos are also displayed. When those words were printed in the local paper in 1894 few would have dreamed they would still ring true more than one hundred years later. After a three year million-dollar renovation Aurora's Old Central Fire Station has been restored to its original splendor and transformed into the Aurora Regional Fire Museum. From bucket brigades to hand-pumpers and from horse-drawn steam fire engines to modern fire apparatus the museum's new exhibit Buckets Bells and Booster Tanks examines one-hundred years of tools and technology used in fighting fires and saving lives. Five pieces of hand horse and motorized apparatus are on display and Kids(and those who are kids at heart) can try their hand at passing buckets see the horse stalls and real fire horses and even send in a fire alarm signal - complete with ringing bells and a ticker-tape. When decommissioned in 1992 Elgin Fire Barn No. 5 Museum Inc. began extensive restoration returning the Landmark building to its original splendor. The front of the museum has been returned to its original 1904 appearance. The Museum currently houses an 1869 Silsby Steamer a 1929 American LaFrance Pumper and a 1954 Ward LaFrance Pumper. On the third Sunday of May a Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service is held at the Museum and we host an annual Antique Apparatus Muster and Flea Market on the third Saturday of September. The collection includes historical items from the Elgin Fire Department volunteer days of the mid 1800's to the present. Member privileges include access to an extensive collection of documents record books photos and manuals relating to all aspects of Elgin's fire service. The museum is closed on holidays. All visitors are welcomed to the museum and special rates for tour and school groups are offered. During our open season group tours may be booked by previous appointment at other than our usual hours. A gift counter is maintained where souvenirs postcards toys etc. may be purchased. The third building is a replica of an early 20th century firehouse the outstanding feature being the tall hose-drying tower. The stone insignia from Peoria's old central firehouse is incorporated in the building. The firehouse contains fire engines and automobiles and an exhibit of old fashioned gas pumps. Wayne and is on the Indiana Register of Historic Sites. National Register status was granted on July 27 1979. On display are the following apparatus: 1848 Button hand pump 1893 Amoskeag First Size Steamer rated at 1 100 gpm 1927 Ahrens Fox pump 1938 1940 and 1942 International Pumps which were built here in Fort Wayne by the Fire Department mechanics and a 1953 Cadillac Ambulance. The fire museum was built in the 1889-1898 period for an original Brockton Fire Engine which was purchased in 1861. The Jeffers Class A hand tub was built for Mobile AL in 1856 and was refused by the Mobile department. When the hand tub returned to New England Brockton purchased it for their use. A Civil War relic Protector now sits inside its new home at the Brockton Fire Museum. It is surrounded by many fire artifacts from local and distant communities: Helmets badges trophies photographs a working Gamewell System and other equipment call the museum home. Other equipment on display includes a 1895 American LaFrance hose reel and a 1905 chemical wagon. Admission is $2 for the entire complex. Located at Route 24 & 27 take exit 18B off route 24. 1/9/2004

The building originally used by the Peabody Engine Company No. 3 was moved to the Historical Society's Brooksby property in 1990. This is located on Felton St just 2 miles from I-95 and Routes 1 128 and 114. Visitors are greeted by a fascinating display of fire fighting artifacts. This is our 25th season on Cape Cod. Recognized as one of the world's most outstanding exhibits of the life and times of the early fire fighting service and the life-style of that era from the American Revolution to the 1930's. We feature magnificent hand horse and motorized equipment such as the only 1929 Mercedes-Benz engine great steamers and the animated diorama of the Great Chicago Fire which has won many awards. Another feature is the Arthur Fiedler Memorial Exhibit Fire Art of the 19th Century and Fire Models on Parade . Life like mannequins abound around our 3-1/2 acre setting which also contains lovely special gardens. There is a picnic area Gift Shop and ample parking. Group tours can be arranged accompanied by our uniformed guides. Movies are usually shown at specific times during the tourist season. Children under 5 are free. The museum is open Saturdays from 10 to 4 pm - April through October or by special arrangement. Located in the former quarters of Engine 39 and Ladder 18 the museum is dedicated to preserving fire memorabilia from Boston and the Metropolitan area. The museum is also dedicated to educating the public on the science of fire fighting and on fire prevention. Within the museum can be found two Christie front-wheel drive steamers (1890's vintage) two 1860's era vintage hand drawn pieces a hand tub Columbia and a hand ladder truck along with a fully restored 1945 Ward LaFrance pumper. Many artifacts pictures and mementos are displayed in the museum and future work involves creation of a complete fire alarm display. The museum is located near Downtown Boston. Additional weekday hours are maintained during July and August through a cooperative program with the Boston Fire Department. 1/31/2010

Established in 2003 the HFD Firefighting Museum currently houses the most extensive collection of antique artifacts relating to the City of Haverhill Fire Department dating from the pre-contract period to the present day. One of a collection of twelve buildings throughout the town of Nantucket owned by the Nantucket Historical Association. This Hose Cart House was built in 1886 and is the last survivor of the many small neighborhood fire stations that once dotted the town.
